02 / A POSSIBLE CONTEXT

What might the question have been?

How can a traveler find shelter, protect possessions and attendants, and respond to fire or loss?

A possible setting

A merchant, envoy, or exile stays at a lodging with money, equipment, and a young attendant. The lodging or a bird's nest may burn; a hunt may yield a pheasant.

How the words respond

The second line secures lodging and provisions. The third loses the lodging and attendant in a fire. The fourth has material resources but remains unhappy. A successful shot earns recognition, while the last line reverses laughter into grief.

READING THREAD
