02 / A POSSIBLE CONTEXT

What might the question have been?

Is it possible to rise in stages, enter an empty settlement, or travel south, and who can provide an introduction?

A possible setting

A person receives permission to rise, climbs steps, or enters an unoccupied settlement. A royal offering at Mount Qi and an ascent in darkness supply other situations.

How the words respond

The judgment favors a southern expedition and an audience with a great person. Early ascent is accepted; a modest offering can suffice. The fifth line joins a favorable determination to climbing steps, while the last leaves the ascent in darkness and continuing effort.
